Henry Cloud's 10 Tips for 2010, Pt. 2

5) Figure out where your distractions or power drains are. In the One-Life Solution I wrote about the people or practices that cause you to lose your self-control and get you off of your vision, taking your energy in the wrong direction. Find those and protect yourself from their effect.

6) Make sure that your vision is one that is worth having....will it really be something of value? Does it correspond to your real values in life? AND....IS IT YOURS? Intrinsic goals and dreams are the ones that actually come to fruition. You can't live someone else's goals for you.

7) Have an ongoing review process....feedback....measurement....etc. with people who hold you accountable. Don't just set a direction without being able to know how you are doing and what is getting in the way. Make course corrections in your review process as you evaluate how you are doing.

8) DO NOT THINK IN ALL-OR-NOTHING WAYS!!!!! Big source of quitting is that people look at how far they have not gotten, compare that to the goal, and give up. When you fail or slip up, which you will, do not see the whole vision as lost. Nothing happens without failure....just accept, learn, and move on.

9) Pray! Remember that God desires well-being for you. Ask for direction and guidance along the way. Seek answers from Him and also stay plugged in to people who are spiritual supports for you.

10) Remember that success and failure are contagious......or at least the patterns that lead to them are. Did you know that research shows that you will become heavier if all of the people you hang around are heavy? I am not saying to jettison your unhealthy friends, BUT you must get around some people who are on a path to health or growth or wherever you are headed or you won't get there. You do become like those you hang around. Make sure that you are joining communities of people and circles of friends who are going in the direction that you wish to travel.....those seeking light, honesty, success, love, health, etc. are contagious, and so are their opposites.

Anyhow....there is my list of "10" for "2010." Enjoy them. (If you want to read more about those concepts, I wrote about them in One-Life Solution as well.)

I hope you guys have a great New Year and that this time next year, you can look back and say, “that was a GREAT year!”

Henry
