Foreign?

Ever feel like a foreigner? Ever been a foreigner?
Some people are at home wherever they roost. Other people cannot be far from family, friends and the familiar. We're all wired differently. Some seek contentment on home territory and others are restless with an insatiable curiosity to explore and learn "What's just over there?"

I discovered these websites/blogs that tell of other people's experience in moving to New Zealand. No two stories are the same. No two perspectives mirror each other.

Some people embrace the new while others cling to the old.

What is integration? Assimilation?
What is identity, national pride, cultural heritage?

American Teacher In NZ
American in New Zealand
We are a married couple from the United States who realized that our life had lost it's sense of adventure; we owned everything you're supposed to own, but we were not happy. So we sold everything we owned and moved to move to New Zealand. We arrived in Auckland Oct. 5, 2009 with no jobs, visas or housing. We made this website to share the story of our escape from America to the Land of the Long White Cloud with our friends, family, and other would be expatriots.

The ramblings of a mad woman who was transported to a new country via the internet. This is the story of her journey outside her comfort zone in the US Midwest to a different country and culture that shouldn't be so different but it is.

Some people come to New Zealand with little or no choice. They may have been forced to leave their home and then were offered the next boat or plane out of the refugee camp. They may also have opted for NZ because it is unlikely to attract international violence!
Some young people from refugee backgrounds have created a positive and creative community called Mixit. Check out their website and activities.
