Why A Bucket List?

Have you see versions of bucket lists that have been going round of late? The one from the movie is as follows:
  1. Witness something truly majestic
  2. Help a complete stranger for a common good
  3. Laugh till I cry
  4. Drive a Shelby Mustang
  5. Kiss the most beautiful girl in the world
  6. Get a tattoo
  7. Skydiving
  8. Visit Stonehenge
  9. Spend a week at the Louvre
  10. See Rome
  11. Dinner at La Cherie d'Or
  12. See the Pyramids
  13. Get back in touch (previously "Hunt the big cat")
  14. Visit Taj Mahal, India
  15. Hong Kong
  16. Victoria Falls
  17. Serengeti
  18. Ride the Great Wall of China
A friend sent another version which you can copy, paste into a new email, blog post or into a note on Facebook, to share with friends.

Why would we do this? Why make the list or share it?

Maybe to take stock, to do a personal inventory as to whether we are living or spending time.
Maybe we'd do it to compare with others. That's not a great way to live as we ought to live our own lives, not someone else's life.

Maybe we've had a scary or threatening diagnosis, been laid off or fired, had a major change in circumstances or relationships. It's good to take stock, to think deeply and choose well, to be intentional and meaningful about how we live. I have a friend who is being intentionally frivolous this year. Great as long as we are choosing and not just cruising!

Use this one as per the instructions or make your own. My friend Jaime shared an amazing one with me last year and I'm still awaiting a copy of it! It was a terrific reflection of her and some things she'd like to make time to do.

Here's The Bucket List Don sent me. The Bucket List.
"Place an X by all the things you've done and remove the X from the ones you have not, then send it to your friends. (To do this on Facebook, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, do the list and tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.) If you don't see the Tag people in the upper right hand corner you are in the wrong place.) After being tagged on multiple versions of this, I figure I'd have the time to do this one!"

Don lives in North America now, but lived in Europe for a while. For those who live in The Antipodes, maybe an All Black's Test Match would be in place of an NFL game, or getting lost in a bad section of Sydney comparable to East LA. You could substitute Walking the Sydney Harbour Bridge for the St Louis Arch and seeing Rotorua's geothermal activity for Old Faithful Geyser.

Not sure how many are in Don's list, but I've done 58 of them. I think Don was one of the kisses under mistletoe!
