The System Works

I was able to watch both McCain's speech and then Obama's speeches today. After being in too many places where change of government happens as a result of bombs, bullets or a coup, I have to celebrate the fact that the U.S. system works. We won't always like the result and will need to participate on every level we can so as to influence and effect change, but the SYSTEM works.

I don't have to agree with a man to respect him. What's the saying?

We don't have to be twins to be brothers.

In this age of globalisation, it means a lot to be patriotic, to participate, to know the rights and benefits of democracy. Infighting is ugly and a waste of energy. That goes for within the Church too.

So, the U.S. election is over. The NZ one is yet to take place. Most of us ought to be grateful we live in a country where voting doesn't result in your house being burned or your children beaten at school. Any comments?
