Helpful Links to Free Software

Google Reader (online) streamlines the processing of heaps of available information. Rather than roaming from site to site, from blog to blog, Google Reader constantly checks your favorite news sites and blogs for new content and shows you all of your favorite sites in one convenient place. Learn how here.
Open Workbench (Windows only) A free tool so feature-rich and powerful that it should at least be considered before any decision is made to purchase a commercial project management package. Open Workbench is resource-driven not task-driven.
Picasa - (Mac/Windows) An online photo organizer from Google that allows you to do limited edits on your photos, organize them, and easily share them with others.
Evernote (Windows/Mac Leopard) Easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at any time, from anywhere.
GIMP - (Windows/Mac/Linux) The GNU Image Manipulation Program is a powerful, free Photoshop alternative that allows you to edit photos and save them in a variety of formats.
Switch - (Windows/Mac) I use switch to convert music files from one type to another. You can output many different files to mp3 or wav formats.
VLC Media Player - (Windows/Mac/Linux) A multimedia player for various audio and video formats that does not require external codecs or programs to work. It can play just about any video format and very helpful if changing zones.
Download helper - (Windows/Mac/Linux) A Firefox extension that lets you save videos from most video sites on the internet, like Youtube, Google, and many others.
Mozy backup - (Windows/Mac) The free version of this online backup offers 2 GB of online storage space, and it automatically backs up your important documents online and encrypts them.
E-Sword - (Windows only) A free Bible software package with many versions, commentaries, and other books available to improve your study of the Bible.
Bible Explorer (Windows only) is another recommended free Bible software package with upgradeable modules.
Freemind - (Windows/Mac/Linux) A mind mapping program that is useful for outlining books, organizing thoughts, and creating mind maps of anything you need.
Thunderbird - (Window/Mac/Linux) Mozilla’s alternative to Outlook, Thunderbird is very fast and efficient for email organization.

Dennis Poulette contributed many of these and I've added a few I like.
