". . . and in conclusion."

A well loved preacher used to end his sermons with " . . . and in conclusion."
Problem was he'd use that phrase upwards of 3 or 4 times before he'd actually pray and sit down!

We'd sit in chapel and count the conclusions!

As 2008 has concluded . . . . though there is still some paperwork to do and possibly some reports to tidy up and finish off . . . . how would you summarise your year?

Could we do it in just a few words?

I'll chime in, possibly more than you'd like, in regular posts over the next month or so. I've much to process from '08: challenges, perspectives, ideas & insights.

How few words, yet with poignancy and richness, could you use to describe the year just gone?

It's a year we cannot re-do.
No going back.
Lessons learned, a few lessons missed.
People we'll not see again on this side.
Some people we'll meet in the New Year and pick up where we left off.
Many things for which to be grateful. A few regrets.

What do you think? Make it as cryptic or explicit as you'd like.

I don't make resolutions, but have got into the practice of spending some time on New Year's Eve reflecting on 'what got done' in the previous year. 2007 had a huge list - I vaguely remember saying something about 2008 would be just to learn to live with all the changes from the previous year. And so, mostly, it has proved. Other than a better garden (small, but satisfying) and some new friends, I seem to have achieved little. My co-reflector said I've been 'surviving'! It didn't feel quite that bad, or on-the-edge at the time, but maybe that's true? I'm not sure I feel much improved by it.
2009 promises to be another year of necessary changes - that I'll also need to learn to live with. I'm hoping the changes will be early in the year, so I can spend the rest of the year on the learning part. Planning on keeping the friends, and the garden too.
