A rainy day in Auckland.
My day off.
What to do?
Had an excellent lunch; seafood within sight and smell of the sea.
Wandered over to the museum.
That's what I do when I'm traveling, go to the museums on the rainy days and the gardens on the sunny days.
Hmm, what's wrong at the museum?
Everyone's milling about.
Chic in a bright yellow warden's vest is on the phone giving a report, "Power outage is affecting all of Newmarket and it's a major. No word as to when it'll be back on."
Ok, back pedal out of the museum doors and back to the car in the drizzle.
Wow! How would it have been to stand next to the dinosaur's skeleton when the lights went off.
Would you have just stood still, and tried to peer through the gloom to see if the dinosaur was standing still too?
Or would you have imagined him starting to move, ever so slightly, but enough to send a chill up your spine?
The emergency back-up lights had failed too, so some people musta been caught out, errr, well, in really.
Plan B was to go to another part of town where we could park cheaply, but that's easier said than done when there is both a limitation as to space and an effort on the part of city officials to discourage people from bringing their cars in. "Use public transport!" even though it runs at the convenience of the operators rather than the public!
So, we've ended up on a side street between the university, the courts and the city centre in a little wine bar called Snobs for a cup of tea. It's still raining but we are snug in Snobs.
Out come the books and cups of tea. Ahh. That's better.
We'll go to the late movie if the power's back on. Or move on to the Mezze Bar for tapas.
Might be a good night to snuggle up with a good book on the sofa.
