Give me something to read

Lists abound at the end of the year . . . b est films, books, games, apps . . . . One interesting list I stumbled upon in my rambles around the WWW is at Give Me Something to Read and is a list of interesting articles chosen as this year's highlights. Give Me Something To Read describes itself as "A hand-picked selection of the finest articles and essays saved with Instapaper." Instapaper is a useful way to save bits that you see online, but on't have time to read right then. You add it to your list of Read Laters and then it is accessible on your iPad, laptop, smart phone or in any internet cafe around the world. Instapaper is free ad handy. I recommend it. So whether you bookmark Give Me Something to Read, register for Instapaper or just find an interesting article from the list, I hope this blog post has added value for you today. Patrick: Starfish or Worm?!

It's been a busy Christmas Season. Don't know what all was on your list, but I somehow found myself badly portraying Patrick the Starfish, a Nickelodean character who's a friend of SpongeBob Square Pants. Who thinks up these things? You see, I had had surgery and couldn't sweat or the adhesive on the bandages would lift and complicate things for my doctor. SO, instead of being my favourite , Winnie the Pooh, or even Tigger or Yogi Bear, in a local parade, I was put in as Patrick because in a boat float the kids would only see my head anyway. Relatively little sweating involved for me! What I did not know at the time, but my friends did, is that Patrick is dumb. Not only that, he's a bit chubby it seems. Ok, allow me to ignorantly publicly humiliate myself! A little kid even shouted out, "Patrick looks like a worm!" In the actual photo we took on the day, I do look a bit like a pink worm with legs sticking out the bottom! From what I read on Nick.com, &

What page or pages do you tend to go back to time and again? What are the most valuable sources of info for you? What have you chosen for your home page? While there is a Google Top 1000 most visited sites list, I'd like to hear from you, even as I share one of my old time reference sources. The Reference Desk has links for just about everywhere I choose to go. Really. Between The Reference Desk and Arts & Letters Daily, I'm in pretty good shape and my brain has more than it can process. Look at a few links students will appreciate. Yep, you can bookmark them yourself with Diigo, Delicious or Google, but sometimes it is easier for me to just go back to The Reference Desk, just like in a library.
